Apply now for the 2019 Art Gallery of NSW Studio in Paris Scholarship

The Art Gallery of New South Wales is delighted to announce that applications are now open for the 2019 Studio in Paris Scholarship.

Each year the Art Gallery of NSW awards up to ten artists or scholars in the visual arts tenancies at the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris, a non-profit international art centre which provides studio accommodation for artists and scholars from around the world.

The AGNSW scholarships offer two-month and three-month tenancies in either the Moya Dyring Studio or the Dr Denise Hickey Memorial Studio at the Cité. The Studio in Paris Scholarship is judged by Art Gallery of NSW staff. The deadline for applications is Sunday 27 May 2018.

The Eva Breuer Travelling Art Scholarship is awarded in conjunction with the Studio in Paris Scholarship. Valued at $25,000 the Eva Breuer Travelling Art Scholarship is awarded to a young Australian female artist for the purpose of travel and study in Paris. The winner of the Eva Breuer Travelling Art Scholarship is selected annually from the winners of the Studio in Paris Scholarship.

Established in memory of Eva Breuer, one of Australia’s most loved and prolific art dealers who made a signification contribution to Australian art in the 1980s and 90s, the scholarship is judged by a representative of the Breuer Foundation and Art Gallery of NSW staff. Clara Adolphs, the recipient of the 2018 Eva Breuer Travelling Art Scholarship, is currently living and making work in Paris for three months. Adolphs said that her first month in Paris has been a wonderful experience.

“At the Cité there are so many other artists to meet from all around the globe. Most evenings there is an open studio. It’s a very inspiring environment to be in.

“Not only do you get a great sense of history being in Paris, but also by living at the Cité you are now a part of that history of Australian artists using this studio,” Adolphs said.

“It’s an idyllic existence and I can feel that this residency will be a turning point in my practice,” Adolphs added.
