Président Presents Bastille Day French Festival: more than raclette
The 2018 Bastille Day French Festival’s intense and authentic program will provide a variety of experiences for Francophiles of all ages. There’s live music and entertainment, engaging masterclasses, and of course stalls and more stalls of delicious French food and drink, including the novelty of snails. Beyond what you might expect, the Bastille Day French Festival is also very invested in innovation and education, which are powerful drives to both our intellectual nations.
They’ll be hosting a special conference with the University of Melbourne presented by Professor Pierre Serna on the French Revolution: new perspectives in the context of global history. His work on the French Revolution’s sustained influence and relevance has been widely published and presented around the world. The talk will be held at the University of Melbourne on July 10.
During the festival, guests can similarly attend the selection of Lumière talks, covering diverse topics such the natural flora of the Parisian Basin and its influence on Impressionist Art, fashion through the ages behind the upcoming NGV collection of French couture, the daily life of Australian soldiers abroad somewhere in France, dance in Belle Époque Paris and many more. An opportunity to learn something through these passionate scholars and experts and their creative storytelling techniques- World War I with miniature toys, anyone?
