In presence of Ms Myriam Boisbouvier-Wylie, Honorary Consul-General of France in Melbourne, Mr Michael Pearce, Honorary Consul-General of Germany in Melbourne, and more than 120 guests attending, European Aussie Drinks was launched on Thursday 27 February in Melbourne.
Almost three years of success and expansion
A few months ago, we met Karine Pham, one of the co-organisers of the event. She shared her personal story as well as her involvement in the French community in Australia, especially with the “French Aussie Drinks” she had co-founded with Xavier Heyman in 2017.
After renaming the event in Sydney a few months ago as “European Aussie Drinks” in Sydney, Karine and Xavier have also organised the transition from “French Aussie Drinks” to “European Aussie Drinks” in Melbourne.
During the last two years and a half, they have received the support of the French community in Melbourne. Many active and passionate French or francophile people in Melbourne have assisted them and this transition would not have been possible without them: Marie Wilkening-Le Brun, Alexandra Law (and all the French-Australian Lawyers Society team), Sylvain Douroux and Trent Williams (French Business School Alumni in Australia), Amelie Rogard and Ludivine Durier (FACCI) as well as Geoffroy Caro (Honorary Consulate General of France).
A special “French-German” event to transition into European Aussie Drinks
Supported by the French Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the German Australian Chamber of Industry and Commerce, the event from last week was a great way to retrace the events from Sydney where the transition was also made with a French-German edition.
More than a French-German event only, we noticed that many other countries were represented incl. a large proportion of Australians but also countries outside the European Union. Thus, Ms Manuela Erb, Honorary Consul of Switzerland in Melbourne, also attended.
A new branding: “European Aussie Drinks”
Karine and Xavier’s intention is now to bring all Europeans together on a regular basis in Melbourne. They also want to provide an avenue for europhile professionals to meet and connect, especially with the Australian community.
European Aussie Drinks is a casual business networking event, for everyone and free.
