Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo and four of his ministers went into quarantine on Monday after French Prime Minister Jean Castex tested positive for Covid-19, a government statement said.

“They  will also take PCR tests and will remain in quarantine until the test results come back negative,” the statement said, hours after they attended a meeting with Castex and other senior French officials.

Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo, who received his French counterpart Jean Castex in Brussels on Monday, quarantined himself after the latter’s positive Covid test was announced.

Four other members of the Belgian government, who also participated in a Franco-Belgian meeting on Monday morning on the subject of security, “will also take a PCR test and will remain in quarantine until the result of the test is negative”, -we specified from the same source in a press release.

They are ministers Sophie Wilmès (Foreign Affairs), Ludivine Dedonder (Defense), Annelies Verlinden (Interior) and Vincent Van Quickenborne (Justice).

Alexander De Croo will take a PCR test on Tuesday morning and will have no public activity before receiving the result. It “will remain in quarantine”, it is stressed.

French Prime Minister Jean Castex tested positive Monday evening for Covid-19, his services told AFP.

He had learned in the afternoon, after his trip to Brussels, that one of his daughters, aged 11, had tested positive and had then immediately performed a PCR test.

In December 2020, in the middle of the second wave of the pandemic, Alexander De Croo had already been forced to quarantine himself a few days after a meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron, who tested positive.
