King Bérenger the First is dying. His kingdom is falling apart. He can’t rule over his army anymore, nor tell the rain to fall, nor the trees to grow. He is dying and there is nothing he can do about it. Queen Marguerite is keeping track of time. ” You will die in 1 hour and 30 minutes ! ” But the King refuses to listen. He chooses instead to love Queen Marie. ”1 hour and 13 minutes left ! ” The clock is ticking….Surronded by his two wives, his cleaning lady, his doctor and a guard Bérenger is learning to accept the inevitable.

Come and discover one of the most sensitive plays by French playwright Eugène Ionesco at ChippenStreet Theatre in Sydney.  Through a psychoanalytical, Anna Jahjah, French director, invites us to approach the theme of our relationship to death. Alternating between theatre workshops and staging with her troupe “Le Théâtre Excentrique”, she left Paris 7 years ago to conquer the Australian scene.
