The 2018 Peugeot Soirée de Gala was dedicated to the celebration of French-Australian friendship! Francois Romanet, the President of the French-Australian Chamber of Commerce & Industry (FACCI), did not hesitate during his introductory speech to loudly proclaim: “France is back!” By mirroring the words of President Macron given on May 1, 2018 at the Sydney Opera House, he highlighted how “France wants to be a partner when it comes to innovation, technology, research, investment and trade or strategic defence partnerships”. Importantly, he also noted that the “100 French companies in Australia employ more than 90,000 people”.
The Ambassador of France to Australia, H.E Christophe Penot gave tribute to the numerous events that have made 2018 a milestone in the French –Australian relationship – including the visit of the President Macron, the inaugural Australia–France Defence Industry Symposium, and the future visit of the Foreign Minister and MEDEF delegation this November for the first ministerial dialogue in Trade and Investments.
In his speech, H.E Christophe Penot, inspired attendees to continue to promote the French brand in Australia, with the belief that the French-Australian relationship is currently stronger than ever, and “will continue whatever the results of the next election will be.”
A detailed strategic description of the Australian Future Submarines Program was given by Jean-Michel Billig, EVP at Naval Group, highlighting the importance of the transfer of technology in the submarines contract.
After the formal introductions, the National PR & Corporate Affairs Manager of Peugeot Citroën Australia, Tyson Bowen, unveiled the concept e-LEGEND, an electric coupe, autonomous and inspired by the Peugeot 504 Coupe (although this new concept car is currently not intended for production). He also outlined the qualities of the new 5008 SUV that make it particularly adapted to the driving conditions of Australian roads.
The evening continued in high spirits and good humour with guests enjoying the delicious food and wines, as well as being bowled over by famous mentalist Phoenix’s astonishingly clever tricks. To conclude, the Soiree saw the dance-floor graced with the first-few stylish dancers.
This 2018 edition, in its usual tradition, was a successful evening celebrating historical French-Australian relations in a relaxed but celebratory environment.
